The membership of the association is open
to any Securities Exchange or nascent Stock Exchange located in the African region
after filling the membership application
and getting the Executive Committee approval.
In August 2005, the Bourse des Valuers
Mobilieres de L' Afrique Centrale (BVMAC), a private organization owned by some
of the largest financial institutions and industries of the Central African region,
applied for ASEA membership, which was approved by ASEA Committee during its 9th
meeting, on the condition that the BVMAC keeps the association informed of developments
and notifies the ASEA when the BVMAC is finally incorporated as a regional securities
exchange and is operational. It’s worth mentioning that through the CEMAC (Central
Africa Economic and Monetary Union) Treaty, the six governments of the CEMAC (Cameroon,
Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad and Central African Republic), have given
BVMAC the exclusive mandate to animate and develop a regional stock exchange.
